I usually really hate the purpose of this blog statement that seems almost obligatory, but when in Rome. The purpose of this blog will be to share the experience of meeting my birth family for the first time with my family and friends back home. I will try to make daily posts to record my thoughts, feelings, and happenings during my trip. I will only update the blog through the end of the trip and the little bit of time after, kind of like debriefing.

My trip to Korea is in two weeks.

How Did this Happen? This is the question that I am asked whenever I tell people that I am visiting Korea to meet six brothers that I have never met. So in short here is the answer.

My biological father found me. He contacted me through my father Donald Anthony Keys and with respect to my father asked his permission to contact me. My father gave his blessing and we had a big family meeting about my new family situation.

I was given a letter describing the situation surrounding my being given up for adoption. My mother passed away while giving birth to me, she had a hemmorage. My father already had six sons and so I was sent to live with my uncle, father's elder brother. After a short time it was apparent that my uncle could not keep me and so I was given up for adoption. There is some lack of clarity to this last point, but it seems that I had some health issues.

I was sent to a foster home and subsequently adopted by Donald Anthony Keys and Donna Maureen (Holderby/Keys) Majors. I have an adopted sister, Colleen, and an adopted brother, Jeff. I guess I was destined to be the youngest in either family.

I currently live in St. Joseph, Missouri with my wife of ten years and still my best friend, Keri Beth (Zettlemoyer) Keys and our two sons, Jack and Charlie. We also have three dogs and two cats. I work for Pfizer Inc. as a representative calling on doctors.

John, my dear John~

You're still above the Pacific somewhere. It's 12:17 AM here. I'm having a hard time sleeping as I think about you and this amazing adventure you've taken. I hope you arrive safely. I know flying is not one of your most favorite things ;) I love you more than anything. My heart is with you even though we're physically thousands of miles apart.

All my love,
Keri
